We know your kids love Legos, so the PA is sponsoring a Brick Building & Beyond, a Lego club, on Mondays after school, 3 to 4, for FREE, from January 9 through April 3.
The Brick Building & Beyond club will be loosely modeled after the international US FIRST Lego League Jr. program. For this program, teams of up to six children learn to build a collaborative model that responds to the national FLL Jr. challenge for that year, which typically focus on the environment, health and fitness, or science explorations. Each model must adhere to specific size limitations and must include at least one moving part using Lego gears.
The PCS Brick Building & Beyond club challenge will be announced in January. No matter the theme, though, the club will emphasize the importance of the process (teamwork, collaboration, communication, compromise) as much as--if not more than--the product. This will be demonstrated through each team's poster project.
Here's the thing, though: We need parents to volunteer as coaches! Teams work best with at least one if not two coaches. Coaches will receive all the necessary info in early January as well as brief training.
Contact Cynthia Eaton Tvelia, mom of Kai (MP) and Micah (LP) Tvelia, before Friday, December 30, by text/phone (631-294-0886) or by email with the names of your children who would like to join AND with your name if you're willing to help guide our happy little brick builders through a wonderful, collaborative, creative process!
