Numeracy and Number Sense on the 100th Day in Kindergarten

On the 100th day of school, Kindergarteners worked with different modalities to compute the value of 100 days and to express the quantity of 100 visually in both numerals and value expressions. Though this may look like all the same activity, Kindergarteners are working in different ways to build number sense, computation skills and numeracy fluency. Across modalities we incorporate tactile experiences that help children count and connect with objects and number to reinforce that numbers are value representations, not just words. Offering children a multitude of modalities introduces the idea that numbers have many different representations including dots, fingers, counters, numerals, objects and tens frames, but that their value does not change. It’s more 🤯 than it seems, isn’t it???
