Scientific Method x Project Based Learning

Third and fourth graders worked with the scientific method to design, build and test functioning water wheels as part of their study of Sustainable Development Goal #7: Clean and Affordable Energy. It’s important that students understand the complexities of the problems they study. Why isn’t it a matter of running more power lines across the globe? What does it take to get electricity into the power lines? What is the difference between clean and dirty energy?

Students got hands-on to start understanding the complexities of powering our modern world. They’re investigating hydropower, wind energy and geothermal power to find potential clean energy sources that are also affordable around the world. To find out what it really takes to make power, third and fourth graders created working water wheel models.
